What machine learning strategy should I use to match lost item with found ones? [closed]

I am a student and I am interested in creating a system allowing for user to register lost and found items. Which machine learning approach would fit best so when a user registers a lost item, it goes through found items and calculates a percentage on how likely those items are a match.
